Weekly Announcements:
BECOME // A NEW SPACE AT HERITAGE
This past Saturday, we made two big changes to our weekly services: first, we shifted into a new space at Heritage which we hope will be more comfortable for us…and second, we introduced a new and more robust liturgy, or order of service. On Saturday, Kenny shared the following about it:
“Our church’s missional focus is on creating a safe space for folks who have questions about this faith we share where we can all engage with the person of Jesus and what it means to make him the Lord of our lives. In the past, we have done this by trying to strip away a lot of what makes a church service confusing, focusing in on the absolute core elements: gathering to sing, hearing teaching from Scripture, and receiving Holy Communion. But as time has passed, it has become increasingly clear that what we have been missing with this stripped-down approach to a worship service is the element of participation. It’s one thing to be able to sit comfortably in the dark and hear about Christian faith! But a worship service also needs to be a place where we can experience and practice that faith in the safety of a church community. Our hope is that by thoughtfully incorporating more participatory parts in our service, we will create more opportunities for you to question and wrestle and engage with your own faith. The goal is not to pressure you into saying or doing things you aren’t ready to do or don’t mean–you can always opt out of any practice in our services without judgment or fear. Rather, the goal is to create moments of reflection for you, where you can ask yourself, ‘is this really what I believe? Does this faith really bring wholeness to me in my life? Do I want to connect to something bigger than my own story? And what are the actual steps I could take to begin to experience that connection and to allow it to shape me and change me?’ We want you to experience this faith because it matters. I don’t have all the answers about it, and I don’t think we could ever hope to summarize those answers in a slogan or a sermon or a service. But what we can do is hold each other by the hand and take another step in the direction of Jesus together. We can walk in faith for one week more. And then we can gather together next Saturday and see what little green shoots of life are springing up amongst us. Then we can celebrate that life…and let the sun continue to do its work while we tend to that life as a community.”
We are really excited about the chance to continue exploring what it means for us to be a church together. If you want to learn more, if you have questions, or if you’re excited and want to find out how you can help us create a spirit of participation in our weekly services, you can email Kenny anytime at kenny@revolutionannapolis.com.
BELONG // SET UP HELP
Speaking of that new space: we had a lot of fun this past week! However, the new set up also requires a lot more work each week! If you are willing to join our Production Team and show up a bit early on Saturday evenings to set up the room and put out chairs, we want to see you! Send a quick email over to Garrett, our Production Manager, at garrett@revolutionannapolis.com. You can also join the team the old-fashioned way, too…by just showing up! Kenny and Garrett are typically at Heritage by 3pm and could use help any time between 3 and 5. Stop on by!
BECOME // ALL-CONGREGATION CLEAN-UP DAY AT HERITAGE
This Saturday, from 9-12, members of all 3 congregations meeting at 1740 Forest Drive–Heritage Baptist, Revolution, and the Belen Church–are coming together to tidy up the outdoor space and prep for spring! If you’d like to participate, show up at the space Saturday morning…and bring gloves/gardening tools, if you have them!
BELONG // NEXT SUNDAY SOCIAL GATHERING
This Sunday, our Church Life Lay Leader Maggie Young is inviting everyone to join her at the Market House at City Dock at noon for coffee or lunch. This is a great way to just simply invest in our relationships with each other and our community as a church. We hope to see you there!
BELIEVE // OUTDOOR EASTER SERVICE
This Easter Sunday (April 17), we will be gathering outdoors at the Millers’ home again at 10am. We are extremely excited to celebrate both Jesus’s resurrection…and the perseverance and hope we have experienced at Revolution this year by way of God’s goodness and grace. Please make a plan to join us!
BELONG // REVYOUTH CONTINUES!
Middle- and High School-age youth are invited to join us on Sunday nights as the RevYouth group begins partnering with the youth group at Heritage Baptist! We are so excited bout this opportunity to build a bigger and more active community together...while also building deeper faith partnerships in our city. The group gathers at 1740 Forest Dr. from 6:30-7:45pm. We hope your kids can make it!
BELONG // FAMILY RETREAT RETURNS: MAY 6-8
Looking to get away for a relaxing weekend outdoors with friends from the Revolution community? Join us for our annual family retreat! Each spring, we meet at Camp Harmison near Berkeley Springs, WV, which offers a group camping area complete with a covered shelter, fireplace, full kitchen, full bathrooms, and (most important!) showers. There’s no agenda for the weekend: it’s just an easy opportunity to hang out with friends, read a book, enjoy time outside, and eat yummy food. If you’re not a big “camper,” it’s a pretty easy entry point…and there are folks in our community with gear to share! You can learn more and sign up for your spot HERE.
BELIEVE // CHILD DEDICATION SERVICE
Are you a new parent? Or did you welcome a new family member during the long “hibernation” of the pandemic? We are currently planning a child dedication service for later in the spring. If you would be interested in welcoming your little one(s) into the family of our church community, you can learn more about what a “child dedication” means for us at Revolution, and get more information about participating, by reaching out to Children’s Pastor Shawn Livingston at shawn@revolutionannapolis.com.
BECOME // IN SEARCH OF: REVKIDS VOLUNTEERS!
As we continue moving forward with reopening RevKids during our weekly services, we need volunteers! If you are ready to step in to help not only look out for the children of our church, but help to foster their first steps towards faith, please reach out to our Children’s Pastor, Shawn Livingston, at shawn@revolutionannapolis.com. You’ll be glad you did!
BECOME // FOOD PANTRY OPPORTUNITIES
A lot of you know about our ongoing partnership with Heritage Baptist Church on their weekly food pantry: that pantry operates each and every Tuesday from 9:30-11:30, with prep work happening on Monday evenings. They could still use our help! So, if you are interested in serving during either time slot, please let us know at info@revolutionannapolis.com and we can get you connected ASAP. But there’s another opportunity to help our neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity, too! We are eager to build a new partnership with our friends at Eastport United Methodist Church, who operate an enormous food pantry/clothing drive/market event every 3rd Saturday morning! Go check things out–and sign up to help!–this month on February 19. You can learn more by reaching out to their lead pastor, Chris Broadwell, at chris@eastportumc.org. He would love to hear from you!
BECOME // MEN’S GROUP CONTINUES THURSDAYS
Did you know Revolution has a weekly small group just for the guys in our community? We would love for you to give it a try: it’s a great place to build deeper relationships and discover real discipleship. We meet on Thursday night from 7-8pm, with locations around town varying week to week. To get in the loop, please email Andy Hanauer at andrew.hanauer@gmail.com!
BELIEVE // LEARN MORE ABOUT BAPTISM
If you have any questions about what it means to become a Christian or how to take that “first next step” in your faith, reach out to us at info@revolutionannapolis.com. You can also always reach out to Kenny to ask questions through email, chat on the phone, or even grab a cup of coffee to talk in person (at a safe social distance, of course!).
