3.29.20 - What Are Our Experiences With Spiritual Gifts? (Kenny, Clare, Matt, & Ivy)

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 4:6-11

The Holy Spirit or “Helper” is active in and relevant to the lives of Christians today. But what does it look like to be gifted by the Holy Spirit in contemporary culture? How can a gift of the Spirit be identified and named? How are our gifts used for good? Can gifts of the Spirit be sought out or cultivated? How do we encourage one another as we hope to use the gifts the Spirit has given us to bring reconciliation to our communities? This week, our hope is that as we share and listen to each other's experiences with gifts of the Spirit, we will grow in our understanding of and openness to God’s continuing work in our lives and world.

REFLECTION/DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. What have your past experiences been with spiritual gifts as a subject of discussion/discovery in the Church?

  2. Was there a particular story shared on Sunday that resonated with you? Why was that story particularly meaningful to you?

  3. Do you have an understanding/knowledge of the gifts of the spirit you possess? If so, what are they and how did you come to know what they are? If not, do you have an idea of what they may be and how can you discover them?

  4. Read 1 Peter 4:10 and 1 Corinthians 12:7. Share experiences of a time when either 1) you have utilized a gift of the spirit to serve the church or your community or 2) someone has utilized a gift of the spirit that served you.

  5. On Sunday, Kenny said that the gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributed as they are among the people of the church, form a “picture of Jesus” only as those people come together to serve. Did that metaphor resonate with you? What might your “piece of the puzzle” be at Revolution?
