4.5.20 - How Our Gifts Might Work Together NOW (Kenny Camacho)

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Romans 12:6-13

While it may seem like special “gifts” from the Holy Spirit are unobtainable or mystical pipe dreams, for the most part they are extremely practical talents or strengths. The tricky part is determining where you fit now. What are your natural strengths? What are the talents that your church community needs someone to have? What gifts do you desire to have? Scripture is clear: when people of “the Way” recognize and utilize their spiritual gifts to build up the church, extraordinary things happen. The Spirit enables and compels followers of Jesus to act and speak in ways that propel the church towards its mission of reconciliation. By recognizing our gifts and saying yes to use them, the work of the Spirit reverberates throughout the church and spurs on a lasting and living movement. Whoever you are, you have something valuable for the health and mission of the church. We hope that each of us can identify that gift and recognize the importance of allowing the Spirit to use it.

REFLECTION/DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. What are your gifts? Have you used them to build up the church? How can you?

  2. How can your gifts work now, in our current moment?

  3. On Sunday, Kenny said that you are a church, right where you are. What did you think of that? Did it resonate with you? Does it challenge you?

  4. In a conversation as a group, offer insight to one another: what do you each perceive about one another’s natural strengths or talents? How can they grow?
