5.16.21 - Nomadic Holiness (Kenny Camacho)

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 1:10-2:3

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  1. Why is it so important to Peter to make sure his (Gentile) readers know that they aren’t at the margins of God’s story? That they are connected to the story of Israel? How might these reassurances matter to people facing the situations his readers are facing?

  2. Do you think of yourself as being free? Why or why not? What kind of freedom is Peter promising you in these verses, if you are a follower of Jesus?

  3. “Free to do what?” This is the question that animates the sermon today. His answer is to pursue holiness. Have you ever felt confused or unsure about this word or how you might pursue it? What are you learning today about pursuing holiness? How is your freedom connected to this pursuit?

  4. Peter tells his readers to live “as foreigners in reverent fear.” What do you think he means by this? In what ways do we live “as foreigners” in our own communities? How can living this way actually be something beneficial, or something for us to desire or pursue?

  5. We are also told to “love one another deeply, from the heart.” Where or when have you experienced this kind of love in a church, or from other Christians? How can you be more intentional about extending this kind of love to others? How can Revolution better love this community?

  6. In what ways have you personally “tasted that the Lord is good,” even in this difficult year? How might remembering those moments help you to live into your freedom as a Jesus follower?
